the biggest danger that organisations face is very often not the threat from without, it is the destructive effect of competition between members of the team or functions and departments within the organisation.
The modern day idea of winning, success, competition & dominion is deep rooted in demarcations of ‘I’ and ‘You’ and all distress & chaos are ripples of this idea.
The cooperative model on the other hand has the entire group working to enable and better each participant. Grace returns to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of many rather than the single.
The slogan “this is a dog eat dog world” is regularly used even though this is not a world which contains a large amount of dogs getting eaten by other dogs.
Unfortunately using competition as a tool to get high performance out of employees will inevitably back fire.
Now I would hazard to say that the only person who can make a meaningful and helpful contribution to the world that they’re in is the cooperative person.
But why have we, a species of 7 billion members possessing vast creative capacity, failed to find globalized solutions to our globalized problems?
It is important to learn how to ask for help because it enables more effective problem solving, allows you to acquire new skills, and it builds and establishes networks.
