Life’s Essential Truths

small_5860896468All the best-selling books on self-enrichment, self-empowerment, and spirituality are essentially calling to the same truths on life. Pour through any number of these books and you would find that they all encourage adopting the same set of values and principles in order to unlock the best that life has to offer.

These books know that in our constant effort to make a living, we often forget how to live, as countless worries and fears crowd our minds in our rushed daily lives.

For instance, we forget that life is short, that it is in constant flux, and that we have that only one life we create for ourselves.

Many amongst us live in constant fear of what others might say or think or whether we will have enough for ourselves and our family in the future. We make our life decisions based on these fears, often suppressing that small voice that calls us to live freely and with passion in what we do. And so we oppress ourselves, and by extension, those around us, by not allowing ourselves to live to our full potential. We do not allow ourselves to give with our own nature, and as such, create a world of a malevolent nature.

Additionally, in our pursuit of success, we too forget that being busy does not necessarily equate to being productive. We run around checking off tasks in a never-ending to-do list, entering and leaving countless meetings, reading and replying hundreds of emails in any given day. But if we took a step back and actually look at what we have done in our lives, perhaps we would find our “work” an illusion — aimless, directionless, and without purpose.

Likewise, we tend to be easily disheartened when faced with failure. Many of us who have tried to take the path less trekked, be it with relationships or businesses, find ourselves giving up early in the journey. However, if we just stand resilient and march onwards despite circumstances, the nature of things is that we will inevitably find success waiting for us; after all, failures occurring before success is but another life truth.

The reason why self-enrichment books fly off the shelves time and again despite having similar content is that life truths like the above often escape us, and our exhausted selves often crave for meaning in what we do. We crave reminders, and the reminders in this article are for you.

Marc and Angel Chernoff, authors of the book “1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People do Differently”, explain more life truths that we tend to forget in their article “10 Painfully Obvious Truths Everyone Forgets Too Soon”.
