Want to be Happy? Stay in the Moment: Matt Killingsworth

As a Doctoral student at Harvard University Matthew Killingsworth conducted a study on happiness. His fundamental starting premise is this: What really matters is happiness. His findings were interesting. He found that most of the things we pursue, e.g. wealth, recognition, power, etc. are largely irrelevant for our happiness. His findings suggested to him that happiness is the result of being present in the moment.

His findings, along with his fundamental starting premise, suggest that most of our endeavour is depressingly misguided. It seems that much of the effort we put into attaining material success should be put into culitvating the capacity to be present in the moment. Put differently we must cultivate the capacity to disengage from our attachment to outcomes and appreciate our expecience, i.e. we must cultivate the capacity to see things as they are and appreciate them for what they are.

Enjoy!!!
