In this article I want to speak specifically about results focused leadership and its impact on employee willingness/engagement.
Any leadership model that is worth its salt has to have Care and Growth at its core. Care and Growth define the leadership qualities of good leadership.
I want to explore the issue of how leadership is to achieve this. What can leadership do to unlock employee willingness to change and become more mature?
Put simply, leadership is really about cultivating people who are mature enough to take full accountability for their own contribution.
Emotional intelligence is the full awareness of one’s own emotional responses to things. It is about truly understanding what emotional responses tend to accompany what sorts of environmental stimuli.
Both intelligence and maturity are very useful, but in different ways so I want to write about the different uses of maturity and intelligence.
Maturity and intelligence are not the same thing. An intelligent person can, like anyone else, care only about satisfying his/her agenda and so can be very immature.
I must stress, this clip of Mr. Thabo Mbeki and Mr. Benjamin Mkapa inspired me and filled me with admiration for the truth of the words they spoke.
What we see in some situations is that we really are presented with a difficult choice to be soft and give or to be harder and stand your ground.
We must be careful not to reduce human potential to the Human Resources box.
